Full Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic Speech & Language Therapist to join our team to lead in the provision of therapy to patients in our Neuro ESD service.
The successful post holder will work as the Speech and Language therapist within the ESD team. They will work closely with the other multidisciplinary team members consisting of Team leader, Nurse, trainee ACP, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Rehabilitation Assistants, and administrative support. You will also maintain close links with the wider Community and Inpatient SLT services and have the opportunity to lead on service development in these services.
ESD is part of the HIOWH Neurological Rehabilitation Services, you will work alongside Neuro ESD Team and Clinical Leads and you will be supported by the Clinical Matron and Adult SLT Professional Lead. You will receive profession specific and CPD support. The post holder will have significant post graduate experience which must include some specific stroke/neurological clinical experience, evidence of working within a MDT and experience of leading on service improvement projects or audits. They must have an enthusiasm for providing evidence-based practice, particularly in the field of aphasia therapy.
Main duties of the job
Neuro ESD works closely with all services involved in the Stroke and Neuro Pathways in Southampton, including UHS Hyper acute Stroke and Acute Stroke Units, the Wessex Neuro Centre, as well as sister teams within the Neuro Rehab Services- Snowdon Neuro Rehab Unit, Community Neuro Rehab Team, Vocational Rehabilitation Service, Neuro Rehabilitation Gym, Transition Team, Community Psychology and Community SLT team.
Purpose of the Position:
To provide a highly specialist SLT Service to a caseload including those with complex needs within area of speciality requiring highly specialist clinical knowledge and expertise.
To work as part of an interdisciplinary neurological community team, in close collaboration with other relevant services/agencies e.g. acute stroke unit, community rehab teams, virtual wards, rapid response etc.
To work as an autonomous practitioner providing highly specialist assessments, diagnosis and management of patients with swallowing and communication disorders and determine profession specific and multidisciplinary rehabilitation interventions.
To provide a lead role across the service and trust within specialist area, working with team leads, Professional Lead for Adult SLT and other highly specialist colleagues, providing clinical leadership, driving forward service development, maintaining standards and ensuring the provision of up-to-date evidence-based care.
