Full Job Description

Lancashire Highways Service is responsible for the direct delivery of all highways related schemes across the County made up of 4300 miles of road, 151,000 streetlights and 2955 bridges.
We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Highways Operatives to be part of a team primarily taking cores from the pavement for others to check the road layer and material construction to assist with the provision of Capital Road Surfacing Programme. The successful candidate may also be required to assist with other Highway maintenance activities to aid the construction of roads, footways, drainage systems and associated street scene works within the guidelines of a safe working environment. This will be an opportunity to support the maintenance and enhancement of the highway network and provide long term benefits for residents, visitors and businesses in Lancashire.
Specifically, the role involves, taking cores samples on the highway, driving and operating vehicles, plant and machinery. We also require someone who can commit to taking part in out of hours emergency call out and winter maintenance standby.
The role in the future may also involve the below activities, full training will be given if these are required.
Operating other plant and Machinery, mechanical excavators, powered light plant such as concrete mixers, portable pumps, portable traffic lights, hydraulic breakers, cut off saws, ride on rollers, pedestrian rollers, and compactor plates, preparing and laying materials including asphalt, concrete, kerbs and paving units to maintain and improve the highway network. Compliance with site plans and health and safety legislation and completing records on handheld IT equipment.
The candidate will hold a current full driving licence with significant experience of working within the highway construction and maintenance sector. As this role involves working on the highway network, we also require someone with an excellent awareness of health and safety legislation and traffic management systems pertaining to highways construction and maintenance.
