Full Job Description

Shape the highways of tomorrow. Are you ready to take up a vital role in shaping some of our exciting projects? How about joining our talented team, where everyone has a voice, and together we face our clients' problems head-on. It's a diverse and inclusive work environment where world-class talent knows no distinctions. We know that different people have different priorities, which is why we're here to support you. Flexible and remote working is a central part of our culture. So talk to us about what's ideal for you - from reduced weeks to buying more leave over school holidays. And if you're returning from a career break, ask us how we can help you transition back into work with us. Work with us as a Highways Project Manager, and you'll play a central role in making vital civil and structural designs a reality. You'll enjoy opportunities across a vast range of projects, from new builds to renewal, maintenance, and assessment works. Your skills and expertise will mean a lot to the business and our clients, such as Highways England, Network Rail, and Transport for London. You'll be trusted to lead your team, knowing we all want you to succeed, and we're ready to help you grow. You are expected to attend the Chelmsford or Cambridge office a minimum of 3-days per week. Your purpose:

  • Deliver highway infrastructure projects using appropriate project controls and software in accordance with AtkinsRéalis Technical Assurance protocols.
  • Manage internal and external project relationships.
  • Generate and/or agree the scope of works and budgets with Clients.
  • Produce, work to and report against project schedules, establishing budgets and monitoring delivery against baseline using Earned Value Analysis and/or other techniques.
  • Implement effective change control, agreeing variations with Clients.
  • Develop, manage and report against project risk mitigation plans.
  • Follow quality, safety, security, and environmental processes.
  • Use standard contract models as used in civil engineering projects (such as NEC 4).
  • Lead diverse delivery teams, creating an environment to motivate individuals and ensure effective teamwork.

Hold or willing to work towards a relevant Project Management Qualification such as APM / PRINCE 2.
  • Can demonstrate experience of delivering engineering projects and have a good knowledge of engineering disciplines (preferably within a Highways environment).
  • Have excellent communication skills with a proven ability to influence others and manage stakeholders effectively.
  • Have a track record of delivering schemes to time and budget using project management tools and methodology, including the development of detailed project schedules using packages such as P6 or MS Project.
  • Have the ability and desire to build and develop multidisciplinary project delivery teams, including the coaching of junior Project Management team members.
  • Can demonstrate experience of successfully operating within a target driven environment with an ability to work under pressure.
  • Can evidence your ability to delight your clients or stakeholders.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with a small, energetic, and enthusiastic team.
  • Educated to degree level or have equivalent, relevant career experience.

At AtkinsRéalis, we seek to hire individuals with diverse characteristics, backgrounds and perspectives. We strongly believe that world-class talent makes no distinctions based on gender, ethnic or national origin, sexual identity and orientation, age, religion or disability, but enriches itself through these differences.
