Full Job Description

We are committed to the development of our workforce. This position is only available to applicants who already work for Surrey County Council. We thank you for your interest in our roles and would encourage you to review our vacancies which are open to all. Role opening This role has a starting salary of £40,269 per annum, based on a 36-hour working week. We are excited to be hiring a new Home Safety Check Advisor to join our fantastic Community Safety team. The team is based in Surrey, and their work is pivotal in providing direct support to vulnerable residents across the county. Three highlights of working with this team include:

  • Working closely with NHS pathways and the local authority to ensure vulnerable residents are safe and secure in their homes.
  • Being part of a team that directly impacts the wellbeing of residents by preventing falls, addressing poor living conditions, and offering fire safety advice.
  • Hybrid working options are available, providing flexibility for our staff while maintaining a strong connection with the community., As a Home Safety Check Advisor, you will play a key role in identifying vulnerable residents through NHS pathways, particularly those at risk of falls, poor living conditions, frailty, or other health concerns. Your responsibilities will include conducting free home safety checks, completing small essential works, and offering advice to improve living conditions. You will also refer residents to local community resources that can provide further support. During visits, you will assess the overall well-being of the residents, ensuring they are well-nourished, socially connected, and living in safe environments.
  • While falls prevention is a core aspect of this role, the focus extends beyond that to ensuring that residents live in warm, safe, and well-maintained homes. This includes properties free from mould, extreme cold, clutter, and debris, providing a holistic approach to improving their living conditions. You'll work closely with the My Care My Way teams to identify and support moderately frail and, where appropriate, severely frail residents, particularly in areas such as East and West Waverley, East Guildford, and Central and North Guildford. Referrals will come from the My Care My Way teams, and your initial task will be to conduct a Home Safety Check. Following the check, you will complete small essential works as needed during the visit. You'll also provide tailored advice and guidance, leveraging well-established community resources offered by local authorities and voluntary services. Taking a client-centered approach, you will engage with residents to understand their broader needs. This includes observing their general presentation-whether they are appropriately dressed, well-nourished, and able to communicate effectively-and encouraging conversations about any feelings of loneliness or isolation. Beyond individual visits, you will proactively work within the community to identify additional vulnerable residents and ensure they receive the appropriate level of care and support within the framework of this scheme.

  • Experience in community-based work
  • A valid driving license (for travel across Surrey)
  • Enhanced DBS clearance
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends

The work location for this role will be a mix of Woodhatch, Reigate, and predominantly Guildford Fire Station.
