Home School Liaison Officer

The staff and Governing Board of Bowlee Park Community School are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, talented and committed Home School Liaison Officer.

This post offers an opportunity to work with a dedicated and forward thinking school team, as well as a range of professionals, to make a significant contribution to the experiences and opportunities on offer to the pupils and families of our school.

As a Home School Liaison Officer, you will provide a range of support to our pupils and their families. You will work directly with parents, empowering them to get the most out of the educational opportunities Bowlee Park has to offer.

You will have the ability to offer calm, appropriate and supportive advice to ensure the highest level of support for our pupils and families in line with the expectations and ethos of our school.

You will work as part of the safeguarding and pastoral team and support families with parenting, attendance, safeguarding and school issues.

Duties include:

• Providing direct support for parents/carers of pupils with emotional and/or behavioural


difficulties in order to support the work undertaken in school

• To help establish and maintain positive relationships between school staff and parents/carers and encourage the consistent use of behaviour management techniques at home


• To provide a range of practical workshops for parents/carers designed to support families on a range of issues including positive behaviour management strategies


• To establish and co-ordinate links with a variety of agencies where there are safeguarding concerns.


• To produce a variety of resources for the pupil/parent/school designed to support families


• To lead small groups and individual interventions focusing on safeguarding and mental health concerns.


• To participate in the evaluation and review of the agreed support in conjunction with other staff


• Keep detailed records of contacts with children/families and set up and maintain files on CPOMS


• To support the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) by attending reviews, case conference and meetings in the lead professional role, sharing information as required


• Provide written reports and assessments


• Liaise appropriately with other professionals


• Be familiar with, understand and apply the school's Child Protection Policy and KCSiE document appropriately and deliver CPD training to staff as required.


• Liaise with the DSL, local authority officers and other relevant agencies/parties in relation to child protection and safeguarding issues and concerns


The successful candidate will work alongside our existing Home School Liaison Officer to support the provision offered to our families.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of working with children of all ages and the ability to demonstrate expertise in all stages of child development. You must be well qualified in the field of intensive family work with a history of supporting and rehabilitating families with complex difficulties and challenges. Experience of working in a community health role would be an advantage.

You must be prepared to undertake travelling as part of your duties.

The ability to converse at ease with customers and service users and provide advice in accurate spoken English is an essential requirement of this post.
