Full Job Description

The HomeChoice service provides a high quality, comprehensive housing access service for customers. Good housing can help to stabilise communities, reduce inequalities, improve safety and help reduce crime. As a member of the HomeChoice management team, you can influence this through delivering high quality services and in ensuring that customers are aware of their housing options and can access and sustain them. What you will be doing:

  • It will be your responsibility to manage the housing advice and options functions within the HomeChoice service area, who are responsible for delivering all statutory duties related to housing advice and homelessness.
  • You are responsible for managing the council's housing register for households who wish to apply for social housing. You will ensure applicants receive an efficient, transparent, and effective service, and customers are aware of their housing options and can access and sustain them.
  • It will be key for you to ensure the team develops and sustains effective working relationships with relevant council departments and external agencies, supporting households at risk of homelessness.
  • Working with the service manager, you will assist with ensuring emerging legislation, guidance and best practice are proactively identified, whilst supporting the development of strategies to support this.

It is essential you are educated to degree level or equivalent, with a proven track record of management within housing services, or an associated sector.
  • You will have detailed technical knowledge and practical experience of legislative frameworks and a clear understanding of the relevant specialist area and issues relating to housing solutions.
  • Given the elements of this role, you will have experience of leadership, service planning and design.
  • We require you to have experience of effectively managing and developing a team to deliver a housing options service.

  • We invest in the careers of our people, and we are recognised for the quality, breadth and depth of our training and development offer, which helps our people make the greatest long-term difference in their work.
  • What's special here is the strength of the team ethos, the support and the training.
  • Our teams at South Gloucestershire Council are making a real difference to the lives of people who live, work and learn here.
  • We're building and shaping communities which people are proud of.
  • We're working with the most vulnerable in our community to help them achieve what they want in life.
  • We're investing in our schools to ensure every child and young person in South Gloucestershire achieves their full potential.
  • We've achieved a great deal, but we need talented and dedicated people to ensure we continue to make a difference. We're making a difference, be part of it! To view the full job description, please click this link: South Gloucestershire Council
