Full Job Description

We are recruiting a Homelessness Navigator to join our Housing Services team.

The successful applicant will work alongside the Council's homelessness team to assess housing needs for people who are currently or at risk of sleeping rough on a case-by-case basis to help people move on towards independent living.

This is a great opportunity to work closely with people and other agencies who provide housing and support, including local charities, health and social care and the criminal justice system.

Applicants should have experience of working with vulnerable people, other agencies and knowledge and understanding of housing and especially the legislation and statutory duties for local housing authorities working with homelessness.

The successful candidate will be based mainly at the Civic Centre in Chelmsford working 37 hours per week but will be required to work away from the office for some of the time, including regular engagement with clients on the street. The post provides an opportunity to develop existing knowledge and skills, whilst gaining experience of both operational and strategic housing issues in the mid Essex area.

Chelmsford City Council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable groups and expects all employees to share this commitment and have a range of policies and procedures in place which promote safeguarding and safer working practices across our services. The Council's Safer Recruitment process contains pre-employment vetting which includes safeguarding training, obtaining references and ensuring compliance with Disclosure and Barring Service process.
