Full Job Description

We are excited to welcome an inclusive, compassionate and collaborative Medical Director into the Good Hope Hospital (part of University Hospitals Birmingham). You will join a strong and motivated senior leadership team led by the Hospital Executive Director and professionally accountable to the Chief Medical Officer. Along with your clinical colleagues you will create a positive safety culture along with a robust quality governance framework and proactively lead and manage our medical workforce across the Good Hope site., The HMD will be responsible for the safe and efficient functioning of the Good Hope Hospital and its accompanying clinical strategy. Sharing our Trust values of being Kind, Connected and Bold, you will work in tandem with other Hospital Medical Directors within the Group. This role does not require you to have a specific clinical background, as a leadership and management post it allows those skills to be transferable regardless of your clinical experience. Applications are welcome from inside our care group, within the Trust and from external experienced Consultants. The HMD key responsibilities will encompass:

  • Have oversight of and ensure excellent running of staff education and wellbeing, and scrutiny and assurance around decision making
  • Maintain integrity of the site - ensuring sufficient flow, and access to urgent and emergency, and specialist pathways by ensuring relevant CDG's are working together and efficiently;
  • Develop assurance, risk and reporting systems to provide the necessary assurance to the Hospital Management Board and its Committees
  • Support the Hospital Executive Director in the effective budget management of medical services
  • Line manage the CDG Medical Leads
  • Excellent communication skills will be essential, ensuring that key lines of communication are established and maintained with your team.
