Full Job Description

Reporting to: Exec Chef, Joint Head Chefs and Head of Catering Duties will include:

  • Supporting the provision of all hospitality food to the agreed standard within the budgetary limitations and the School's standards.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of high standards, in Hygiene and Health & Safety.
  • To carry out various preparations, serving and cleaning duties in the establishment under the direction of the management team.
  • The role holder will be expected to report to the Head Chef on a daily basis to establish and plan daily requirements.
  • Written communications would include daily ordering sheets, temperature checks, stock sheets and some basic input in menu planning. There will also be times where the role holder will be expected to communicate with the front of house staff to determine customer requirements.
  • Other communication will involved direct verbal communications with the Exec Chef and Second Chef to confirm expectations and quality standards.
  • In addition to planning/preparing any food for school event you will need to assist in preparing meals, salads, etc. as directed, using the company policies and guidelines as a minimum standard.
  • To ensure that meals are prepared and presented and ready for service at the published times.
  • To assist in the service of meals where necessary.
  • To maintain a high standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the food preparation and service areas at all times.
  • To constantly endeavour to improve the standard of food preparation and to incorporate any new techniques which become available.
  • To assist with Hospitality events as required, some of which may occur outside normal working times.
  • To report all customer responses and any incidents of accidents, fire, theft, loss, damage, or other irregularities and to take action if appropriate.
  • Promote a professional image and good customer relations.
  • To carry out any reasonable request by the management team.
  • To attend meetings and training meetings.
  • Working as part of a team to create a healthy and safe environment.
  • To carry out all tasks in co-ordination with the safe system of work, assuring safe catering and company policies.
  • To attend the workplace at the required time in the correct uniform to promote a professional image and good customer relations.
  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with your grade, and/or hours of work, as may reasonably be required of you.

    Must possess relevant professional experience.

    The College has more than 800 pupils and staff, the majority of which are full boarders at the school during term-time. The Catering Department provides breakfast, lunch and evening meal up to seven days per week during term-time and lunch for staff throughout the year. There is also extensive hospitality and event catering required throughout the year and a busy summer lettings programme during July and August. Events can be for internal groups ranging from sports teas, parent events, departmental dinner, and fund-raising events, and for external groups hiring the school facilities.
