Full Job Description

Ensuring that our wards a clean and have the correct equipment to enable us to deliver care is of paramount importance. The role of the Housekeeper is pivotal to providing this. The successful candidate will be expected to manage the stocks on the ward, monitor levels of equipment and reporting and monitoring faulty equipment. The Housekeeper will work closely with the senior nursing team on the ward to ensure patient safety., Responsibilities of the role will also include to monitor cleanliness levels on the ward, monitor equipment and report any faults, this will also include liaising with medical equipment library and clinical engineering. Supporting the ward with protected mealtimes, maintenance of stock and store rooms ensuring that stock deliveries are unpacked and being stored in accordance with trust policy. Other responsibilities will include to support the patient administration team as required., + To assist in the monitoring and maintaining cleaning standards in the wards, including spot cleaning of spillages.
+ To ensure general and specialist equipment are cleaned as per policy.
+ To ensure the ward is safe and tidy at all times and maintain up keep of patients' bed areas.
+ To identify problems with cleanliness and report as per policy and keep Ward Manager informed.
+ To ensure isolation nursing areas are cleaned appropriately.
Catering
+ To assist and monitor selection and ordering and serving of patient food, taking into account special needs and dietary requirements.
+ To ensure patients have help to eat and drink when necessary and monitor food intake in conjunction with nursing staff.
+ To ensure hot/cold snacks and drinks are available when requested.
+ To assist with monitoring compliance with food hygiene regulations.
+ To promote and support "protected mealtimes" and challenge staff and visitors who do not comply with protected time for patients.
Maintenance and Repair
+ To assist and carry out monitoring of service delivery relating to cleaning, food, linen and the environment.
+ To maintain records of maintenance requests and follow up as required, this includes liaising with medical equipment library or clinical engineering.
+ To ensure all equipment is in a good state of repair and is decontaminated according to policy.
+ To carry out equipment monitoring.
+ To report pest control issues.
Stores management
+ To maintain clinical store rooms - receive & check order, stock up and tidy. Liaise with the relevant individual for any discrepancies.
+ To assist in order and follow up of non-stock supplies.
+ To support the nursing team to ensure the areas of the wards are stocked with the correct equipment.
+ Avoid over ordering of equipment to support the Ward Managers with budget control.
Customer Care
+ To accord respect quality, dignity and confidentiality to each patient, relative and visitor.
+ To act at all times in a courteous and helpful manner to all patients, visitors and staff.
+ To act as liaison between patients and relatives and the various service providers.
+ To undertake any further duties appropriate to the grade as directed by the Ward Sister or Charge nurse.
Clerical responsibilities (in the absence of the ward clerk)
1. To receive patients, relatives and visitors on the ward in a friendly and welcoming manner, referring to nursing staff as necessary.
2. To deal with any telephone enquiries and ensure messages are recorded or passed on as appropriate.
3. To undertake clerical tasks relating to the safe and efficient running of the ward. This will include:
Ø Ensuring Cerner is up to date with patient locations and admitting Consultants.
Ø Arrange patient transport.
Ø Check and ensure timely dispatch of electronic discharge summaries.
4. To order and check notes and stationery, to maintain adequate stock levels, as directed by nursing staff.
