Full Job Description

The purpose of the Housekeeper is to maintain a clear and safe working environment, which facilitates the safe and efficient working of others throughout the warehouse; assist with the recycling of waste materials, and associated duties.

  • Sort and segregate all waste as appropriate for recycling from throughout the warehouse and transfer contents to appropriate contractor's containers.
  • Operate the external Compactors attached to the cardboard and residual waste skips, in accord with the safe systems of work. Following procedures, load appropriate plastic film materials, into the 'Bailer', to be compacted into bales, and eject completed bales for handling by FLT. Telephone contractors to arrange emptying.
  • Monitor the availability of consumable items at all Packing Stations daily for that shift, tidy and replenish as required.
  • Un-jam and re thread parcel strapping machines when required, and carry out routine user checks, adjustments and servicing according to the safe systems of work.
  • Sweep and wash the floors throughout the warehouse using the 'ride on' washing/scrubbing machine. Carry out pre-operational checks, and place on charge etc
  • Remove all recycling materials and residual waste from the designated areas throughout the Offices, and transfer contents to appropriate contractor's containers.
  • Clean up spillages (using appropriate PPE relevant to the substance and as per the safe system of work) and other janitorial and maintenance duties, as may be required and monitor the availability of necessary consumables within the Hazard Spill Kits around the Warehouse.
  • Advise Section Leader of items needing reordering, or any equipment found to need service or repair by others.
  • Arrange for the collection and replacement of various waste skips
  • Store waste chemicals in appropriate containers according to safe systems of work and COSHH guidelines and arrange for the periodic collection of these chemicals.
  • According to schedule, remove all litter and rubbish etc and tidy up as appropriate, the external areas of the premises.
  • Use a range of equipment including ride on and pedestrian pallet truck, ride on floor scrubbing/washing machine and domestic type vacuum cleaners and other mechanical aids (including carrying out the operator daily checks, placing battery powered equipment on charge, and other routine maintenance in accord with manufacturers recommendations, etc.), as appropriate, to perform the above and other duties.
  • Other duties may include, as and when required, - re-packing and wrapping of goods; ad hoc maintenance of other plant and equipment, etc.; assist with or carry out general cleaning duties, and any other duties as may reasonably, from time to time, be required.
  • To be aware of surroundings whilst working in the warehouse environment and to look out for anything that has the potential to cause harm and to submit hazard reports if potentially unsafe situations are encountered.
  • To use good manual handling techniques when lifting or carrying as per the training received.

  • Able to work in environmental conditions of a warehouse.
  • Able to properly and safely perform, on occasions, heavy lifting (up to 25kg), the movement of pallets with a hand truck, and bending and associated movements.
