Full Job Description

Plays a key role in the delivery of IAG's net zero strategy, including the Group's sustainable fuels strategy (including our 10% SAF target by 2030) and the Group's risk management for compliance with CORSIA and other relevant climate policies. Supports the development of the Group's SAF portfolio to meet net zero by 2050. Maximises the value realisation of the SAF Scope 1 and Scope 3 emissions attributes, minimises risk and ensures contractual and regulatory compliance of the Group's committed SAF offtake agreements. Leads complex modelling work incorporating commercial, policy and trade considerations across the Group's SAF portfolio. Expert in carbon markets - advising the Group and conducting/advising on contract negotiation and delivery of trading volumes for CORSIA compliance to meet the Group's CORSIA obligations. Able to analyse and influence future carbon and SAF policies.
Accountabilities
Understand and influence global emission reduction incentive values relating to the Group's SAF offtakes and work with SAF Originators and Group fuel team to identify optimal locations for SAF consumption on a strategic and tactical level.

  • Subject matter expert on emerging regulatory trends, influence policy and build pathways to enable IAG's net zero trajectory.

  • Ensure Group SAF agreements are compliant and optimised to obtain the maximum benefits for the Group and where appropriate, support compliance and verification through regulatory bodies and verifiers working with Opco teams as appropriate.

  • Lead modelling work to determine the most advantageous markets for SAF and carbon credits.

  • Provision of expert advice on carbon markets and mechanisms to the Group including driving increased access to CORSIA eligible credits.

  • Responsible for transacting on CORSIA compliance volumes to meet the Group's CORSIA needs and for advising Opcos on the interaction between SAF incentives and ETS. Other trading in environmental commodity markets as required.

  • Ensure delivery/capture of financial and emissions reductions benefits of approved SAF business cases, make consumer and producer claims, working with SAF Originators as appropriate.

  • Manage registry accounts relevant to both SAF and credits as necessary.

  • Support SAF Originators in developing fuel partnerships, investments and offtake opportunities to achieve IAG's announced decarbonization goals.

  • Support risk analysis of all potential new SAF commitments from a capital and an offtake perspective. Evaluate opportunities and risks surrounding emerging and existing carbon incentives for production and consumption.

  • Work with Head of Carbon to provide SAF incentive subject matter expertise and guidance both internally and externally

  • Support on policy relating to climate and SAF as needed

  • Monitor latest SAF and carbon trading compliance developments and trends, including tracking competitor activity and representing IAG at industry events and other platforms where appropriate

  • Support to Head of Sustainability and Head of Carbon on policy advocacy on a global/regional basis.

  • Support to Group and Opco Communications teams to drive the Group's reputational enhancement through internal and external PR on SAF.


  • Serve as a company champion of SAF's contribution to IAG's broader environmental sustainability strategy.

    Good working knowledge of SAF: Technical (feedstock/pathways, logistics, trade rules, opportunities/constraints) and Policy (Current and proposed legislation).

  • Expert in carbon credit transactions and trading, knowledge of global carbon markets and relevant regulations.

  • Working experience of negotiating and managing contracts.

  • Detailed knowledge of sustainability and greenhouse gas life cycle assessment, including familiarity with the main regulatory frameworks (EU, UK, US) .

  • Modelling capabilities and ability to undertake complex risk assessments.

  • Awareness of petroleum industry; specifically jet fuel and/or refined products and logistics.

  • Programme management experience.

  • Requires a deep understanding of renewable fuels and energy transition issues, experience partnering cross-functionally in a large, corporate environment, and a history driving results.

  • Must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a large organization.

  • Must have ability to balance a wide range of competing assignments and deliver high-quality results occasionally within very tight timeframes.

  • Must have ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information.

  • Must demonstrate attention to detail and have strong written, numeracy and verbal communication skills.


  • Ability to communicate insights from technical reports, publications, and presentations in a structured, digestible, and concise manner.
