Full Job Description

The post of Head of Operations presents an exciting opportunity to join the senior management of the IDRM and to support the growth of the Institute. The post holder oversees the effective and efficient day to day non-academic management and administration of the IDRM. Working closely with the Institute's Director and the Management Committee, the post plays a crucial role in the Institute's strategic planning and develops business plans in order to raise funding for the Institute. Leading the team of building and operations staff (approx. 9 FTE with 3 direct line reports) the post oversees the Institute's administrative processes and systems and is responsible for the Institute's financial and budgetary management; human resources management; premises, resources and facilities; security, health and safety; support for academic staff, and general administration.
The Institute of Developmental and Regenerative Medicine (IDRM) is a unique flagship institution, at the University of Oxford, and represents a dynamic and collaborative research environment, with 15-20 research groups and 240 research staff investigating how understanding normal development can inform on strategies to regenerate diseased or injured tissues. Our interests span across three research themes: cardiovascular science, neuroscience and immunology, capturing three of the major organ systems targeted by non-communicable diseases.
This position is offered full-time on a fixed-term contract for 12 months to cover the absence of the substantive postholder who is taking maternity leave. The post is available for 12 months or the actual return of the substantive postholder, or the resignation of the substantive postholder and employment of a new postholder, whichever is the earliest.

You will have extensive managerial experience at senior level in a devolved, complex and varied working environment. An empowering and supportive leadership style with an ability to lead, manage and motivate a range of operational staff in the delivery of high-end support services is a must. In addition, you will have demonstrable experience of managing complex projects with multiple inputs, allied with an ability to make comprehensive assessments and sound judgements. You are a self-directed strategic thinker with the capacity to problem-solve and take initiative. You show a strong collaborative and community building approach with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels across IDRM and the wider University.
