Full Job Description

Are you objective and fair minded? Keen to contribute to the work of Blackpool Council in promoting good governance?

We are looking for a passionate and committed individual to join our Audit Committee, as a non-voting co-opted Independent Member. The Audit Committee is a key component of the Council's corporate governance as it provides an independent and high level focus on the audit, assurance and reporting arrangements that underpin good governance.

Applications are invited from interested persons who have an understanding of governance arrangements, internal and external audit, financial management and risk management. The position may suit someone who has worked in the public sector in a senior finance, audit or governance role. Someone with Non-Executive experience in these areas may also be attracted to the role.

The successful candidate will be able to objectively question, offer an independent perspective, demonstrate strategic thinking with an awareness of materiality and be an effective communicator. There will also be an expectation to devote the necessary time to the role. This includes attendance at six meetings a year, associated briefings and training events.

The post is not a salaried position although the Independent Member will receive an allowance of £798 per year plus reasonable travel expenses.
