Full Job Description
+ Work as an autonomous prescriber utilising clinical assessment, medication and diagnostic skills to provide and prescribe care and treatment for patient receiving anti-cancer therapies, within a pre-determined/agreed scope of practice
+ Support the Virtual Assessment Patient Service as an independent prescriber
+ Support education and development of other staff within scope of practice and ensure evidence-based use of medicines
+ Provide expert clinical advice and work collaboratively with other health professionals

Applications submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English., The Virtually Assessed Pathway clinic (VAP) is an award winning service, unique to Velindre Cancer Centre, This post holder will be joining a small team of nurses and pharmacy technicians as one of the Independent Prescribers working within the VAP Service and the face to face oncology clinics.
The VAP service is not just a pre SACT assessment clinic, we manage the patients' cancer pathway and as a result we become part of their journey. We maintain continuity of care and as a result we develop a relationship, assessing the patient before each cycle of treatment for months at a time.
The VAP clinic currently works with the following teams assessing and prescribing for patients on suitable regimens from the following cancer sites Colorectal / Breast / Urology / Gynae / Skin. We plan to extend into lung and Upper GI in 2025.
A key aspect of the role includes working as part of site-specific teams as an independent prescriber in the SACT pre assessment clinics. Experience in these cancer sites would be beneficial but is not essential.
Velindre Cancer Centre currently offers non-medical prescribing (NMP) clinics for all solid tumour sites and there will be opportunities within a wide range of specialties offering opportunities for development. This job plan will require approximately 75% Clinical and 25% focusing on the remaining practice pillars, leadership and management, education and research., Here at Velindre University NHS Trust we are extremely proud of the specialist services we provide across the whole of Wales in our cutting-edge Velindre Cancer Centre and our award-winning Welsh Blood Service, as well as the expertise of our corporate functions that bring the two divisions together.
