Full Job Description

We are delighted to be recruiting a full time and permanent Independent Reviewing Officers with responsibility for Child Protection to join the Independent Safeguarding Unit.

This role will be crucial in fulfilling the LA's statutory duty to chair multi-agency initial and review child protection conferences. As part of the role you will be involved in tracking the progress of plans for children and young people and providing advice, guidance and challenge to staff, to ensure positive outcomes. You will be at the forefront of implementing the Signs of Safety practice model and contributing to maintaining practice standards.

You will work closely with children's social care teams and the other IROs (with responsibility for both Child Protection and Looked After Children) in the Safeguarding and Quality Assurance Team., You will join an established and experienced team as a member of the Independent Safeguarding Unit. The unit comprises of the Independent Reviewing Officers for Looked After Children and Children subject to Child Protection Plans, Pathway Plan Reviewing Officers,& Independent Fostering Reviewing Officers. You will have your own caseload, be part of a duty rota and contribute to developments within the team and wider service improvements, as well as supporting implementation of the signs of safety model of practice. You will have the opportunity to meet with, and work with a wide number of partner agencies and members of the community along with children and young people.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic qualified social worker, who has significant experience of working within statutory child care settings, with a sound, up to date knowledge of children and young people's legislation, policies and procedures, court work and assessments, and permanence planning. It would be ideal if you had previous experience as an Independent Reviewing Officer, or supervising others. This person needs to be able to work calmly and constructively under pressure in a multi-disciplinary arena, have the ability to communicate and engage with children, young people and their parents/carers. The individual should be able to offer high challenge and high support to ensure the best outcomes for our most vulnerable children.
