Full Job Description

  • In this role, you will support the UK business in IR & ER matters, aiding the strategic direction, and requirements of the business
  • You will drive the IR / ER agenda across the business areas, and identify and evaluate current ER & IR policies making recommendations for change
  • In addition, you'll ensure that managers are fully equipped and upskilled to manage grievance / disciplinary / absence / performance and management processes, involving the management of more complex cases;
  • focusing on building capability of the manager rather than just managing the issue
  • As part of this, you will use metrics to identify opportunities to improve performance in these areas
  • Additionally you will research market rate pay differentials and other payments for pay negotiations, and support negotiations between management and employees or trades unions concerning pay and conditions of employment
  • Furthermore, you will ensure the People strategy / approach is aligned across business units where necessary, and provide input on People strategies / initiatives specifically relating to the IR & ER agenda
  • You will lead and manage IR & ER related projects as appropriate
  • And lastly, this role will give you the exciting opportunity to meet a wide range of people, see our sites and offices so you will need to be willing to travel for up to 30% of your time

    You have an understanding of UK Employment Law, with flexibility of thought and approach with the ability to adapt and adjust legal and HR best practice appropriately to the working environment, supporting managers with varying degrees of experience and diverse job roles
  • Previous experience in similar industry in a unionised environment
  • You have experience of handing sensitive personal and complex data, with emotional resilience, confidence, discretion, and respect for confidentiality
  • You are experienced in the Microsoft suite, in particular PowerPoint, Excel and / or PowerBI
  • Additionally, you have excellent negotiation and coaching skills, including the ability to coach and develop managers with sound influencing skills whilst motivating others
  • Furthermore, you have high levels of emotional intelligence, understanding of what motivates others and sufficient self awareness to realise impact of own behaviour on others
  • You are adaptable and responsive, and somebody who is able to work effectively with competing and changing demands as well comfortable with working in ambiguity at times
