Our Industrial Placement scheme offers ambitious and capable undergraduates the opportunity to gain valuable experience working alongside diverse and highly skilled experts in their field. Youll be working on projects that really matter and will make a difference.
You will be developing the Met Office Global Climate Dashboard (https://climate.metoffice.cloud/), which presents accessible, updating information on key global climate indicators that is open and free to use for all. It has been accessed in over 165 countries worldwide over the last year alone.
Underpinning the dashboard is a python-based system that harvests pre-calculated indicators from international data providers, displaying them on the pages. You will develop the skills to help to ensure the robustness of the system and develop the content of the dashboard, collaborating with our team of friendly and supportive scientific software engineers and scientists.
Your key duties
+ Develop the skills to help to ensure the robustness of the global climate dashboard system and to develop the content of the dashboard.
+ Bringing together observations of key climate indicators with projections of future climate to show how climate change is evolving relative to expectations, and/or including other new metrics developed by partners in other UK institutions.
+ There may be opportunities to also contribute to related scientific software engineering work on climate monitoring, as the global climate dashboard is just one aspect of our work., How we can help

As our Global Climate Dashboard Industrial Placement, the job may be suitable for hybrid working, which is where an employee works part of the week in the office and part of the week from home. This is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement and the location advertised will be your contractual place of work.
