Full Job Description

We're looking for a safety professional to provide support and assurance that conventional/industrial safety arrangements are in place and compliance is maintained against site, company and industry requirements. Perhaps you have worked as a Health and Safety Advisor or Manager and wish to continually develop within the Nuclear Industry? We need you to be continuously looking at performance improvement and to be the leader of proficient risk identification and the associated management processes., whilst always maintaining a positive industrial safety profile out in the field. This role will be a for a fixed term period of 1 year.,

  • Accountable for providing specialist conventional/industrial safety advice to line management and for the delivery of agreed targets.
  • Liaising with the internal and external Regulators on industrial safety matters
  • Engaging with Industrial Safety Branch as a key stakeholder in the revision or production of industrial safety standards or guidelines for company wide application
  • Participating in the Industrial Safety Peer Group network in the development and implementation of fleet wide continuous improvement initiatives and sharing of good practice
  • Connecting with all members of the Management Team and maintaining/developing exceptional relationships
  • Supporting the Group Head in setting Conventional Safety Key Performance Indicators, tracking progress and reporting performance
  • Educating, advising, auditing and developing cross station teams to ensure compliance with Fleet Safety requirements
  • Acting as an SME on a variety of different safety topics, utilising experience of developing best practice processes to continually improve safety performance.

    As a minimum you should hold a NEBOSH Certificate, ideally having completed the NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and it would be desirable if you are a member of the Institute of Occupational Safety & Health. A relevant HNC in a technical discipline would also be acceptable, with a desire to obtain NEBOSH Certificate. It's essential for you to have knowledge of HSE regulatory framework, UK safety legislation, and desirably, knowledge of legislation applicable to nuclear power stations. Knowledge of key conventional/industrial safety risks present within nuclear power stations and/or similar industries and of applicable control measures to mitigate risks is important.
  • Experience as a Health & Safety Advisor (or equivalent) within a highly regulated industrial sector (including but not limited to aviation, maritime, logistics, defence) would be desirable, alongside some background in a range of H&S topics relating to workplace regulations. Experience working with the key processes, equipment systems and services used in nuclear power generation/defueling would also be of benefit.
