Full Job Description

A specialist practitioner within the field of Infection Prevention Control and sepsis. Able to make informed decisions within their scope of professional practice, involving staff, patients and public, ensuring national standards and agreed objectives and targets met. The role welcomes any healthcare worker background.,

  • To support and assist the IPC Team in providing a service to the Trust (across both sites) in reducing the incidence of healthcare associated infections. This will include the review, formulation, implementation and education of evidence based practices.


  • The post holder will be a strong patient advocate, ensuring that the care of patients reflects best clinical standards and that all patients are treated with dignity and respect.

  • Act as a specialist advisor to all grades and disciplines of staff in matters relating to IPC and sepsis.

  • Explains the significance of microbiological reports, where relevant, to other staff and advises on isolation precautions and supervises the introduction and progress of such techniques in specific situation.

  • Provide specialist advice on the planning of individual nursing care of patients with infectious conditions

  • Seeks early evidence of cross-infection, with a view to recommending immediate control measures, by correlating information from laboratories and clinical areas about the incidence and pathology of infection

  • Be proactive in the collection, analysis and dissemination of relevant surveillance data

  • As part of the IPC team investigate outbreaks of infection within the Trust and put control measures in place.

  • Identifies infection control risks in order to plan preventative measures with clinical teams
