Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Clinical Manager for our In-Patients Unit at HMP Elmley. This post holder will be an expert practitioner, and a source of expert advice to the in-patient multi-disciplinary team, prison staff, and prisoners with overall responsibility for the mental and physical health and well-being of offenders in their department, operational management and day-to-day leadership of the in-patient department in HMP Elmley., An expert practitioner, the post holder will be a source of expert advice, manager and leader to the in-patient multi-disciplinary team, prison staff, & offenders Assume overall responsibility for the day to day mental and physical health & well-being of offenders in their department, operational management, and day-to-day responsibility for the in-patient department in HMP Elmley.

  • Quality services based on evidence-based practice
  • The post holder will have the ability to reach and make complex and critical judgements and have decision making skills to satisfy the expectations and demands of the role.
  • The post holder will deliver and direct others to provide a range of evidence based clinical interventions for offenders.
  • The post holder will be required to take an active role in training and development both within their team and the establishments in general
  • The post holder will work closely with the Quality & Performance Manager to develop audit and evaluation tools and improve the quality and clinical effectiveness of their service

    We are seeking to appoint a qualified nurse with post qualifying experience in any of the following areas:-
  • Learning Disability
  • Personality Disorder
  • Substance Misuse/Dual Diagnosis
  • Mentally Disordered Offenders In addition to the above an in-depth knowledge of the Care Programme Approach and at least 2 years experience of working and supervising staff within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • The successful candidate will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and an understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983 and in particular management of patients within secure locations. Experience in prisons would be advantageous.
  • The successful post holder will be required to pass all prison security clearance.
