Full Job Description

Are you passionate about Learning Disability and Neurodiversity? Could you be part of our exciting new service development providing a 10 bed regional inpatient unit for people with a learning disability and/or autistic people with treatable mental health needs? Do you want to work in an organisation which is genuinely committed to meeting your individual needs as well as the needs of patients? We are looking for someone who can bring effective clinical support, to develop, monitor and then provide ongoing evaluation of the new service in conjunction with the other members of the senior operational and clinical leadership team. This is an exciting and ambitious programme that will deliver measurable benefits for those people with a learning disability and autistic people by providing the physical and clinical environment that supports patients and contributes to improved wellbeing. The applicant will work as a specialty doctor on a 10-bed inpatient psychiatric ward for people with learning disability and/or autism, with co-morbid mental disorder. Duties include direct clinical care, such as ward rounds, physical and mental state examinations and supporting professional activities such as the monthly clinical educational programme.

  • Improved care pathway for those with a learning disability and autistic people across community (inreach / outreach) and inpatient care.
  • Improvements in the physical infrastructure to deliver better care and outcomes for service users, whilst aiming for a length of stay of less than twelve months.
  • Reducing the requirement for out of area admissions.
  • Improved care and inpatient experiences for people within the South West Region with a learning disability and/or autistic people.
  • Treating people closer to home whilst reducing reliance on inpatient beds.
  • Delivery of innovative solutions and improvements to the therapeutic environment and service model that delivers a positive impact to service users.
  • You will be part of a large multi-disciplinary team, with the opportunity to shape and develop the team to deliver consistently high quality care and treatment. You will also support the transition from our existing service to the new development.
