Full Job Description

This is an exciting 12 month secondment to work with and take a lead role in the Mental Health, Learning Disability, Autism and Neurodiversity Inpatient Transformation Programme. It is a three year initiative & involves improvement work across our inpatient areas.

The Culture of Care is an aligning programme which is focussed on Quality Improvement methodology to improve patient, carer and staff experience on our inpatient wards. Again a national programme with opportunities to connect with other organisations across England and participate in coaching opportunities provided by the National Centre for Collaborating Mental Health., The main duties are,

  • Fully engaging in both transformation programmes and taking a lead role in connecting internally with ward teams.

  • Leading/chairing meetings relevant to this improvement work.

  • Coaching others with their projects relevant to the programme.

  • Providing reports on progress and ambition, working in conjunction with the PMO.

  • Engaging with Experts by Experience and prioritising their collaborative role as part of this programme., The job holder will be responsible for planning and delivering activity that will support operational and clinical leaders in the implementation of the Mental Health, Learning Disability, Autism and Neurodiversity Inpatient Transformation Programme and Culture of Care Programme. . This will involve a lead role in the quality improvement and transformation of Trust Inpatient Services as part of an NHSE national programme of change. Aligned with this is the Culture of Care Quality Improvement programme which also sets out pillars of improvement for inpatient areas in QI programmes, moving away from risk stratification, ward manager/senior leaders development and the trust support offer for inpatient staff.


  • This work entails connecting with other workstreams across the organisation, Reducing Restrictive Practice Committee, Community Programme Delivery Group, Autism and Neurodiversity Work stream, Urgent Care Board and the Complex Emotional Needs Work stream.

    This role gives opportunity to influence, shape and build on work already undertaken to improve the patient flow through our Adult and Older Adult inpatient services, improve patient and carer experience as well as staff experience working in these environments it involves being a good connector, communicator and leader.

  • Registered Mental Health/Learning Disability Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, Clinical Psychologist

  • Educated to masters level or equivalent experience

  • Specialist project knowledge to post graduate level or equivalent experience (Prince formal or informal)

  • Evidence of further development
