Full Job Description

Working under the direction of an Insight Manager this role sources and prepares high-value analysis based on relevant data, innovative market, content, viewer or commercial analysis & insight for C-Suite and Senior Leader stakeholders to enable them to make profitable business decisions for C4.,

  • Taking direction from the Analytics Lead who has agreed analysis deliverables with the Insights BP, via the Insights Manager, this role provides the best quality data analysis and insight to inform business decisions made by Exec and Senior Leaders in C4.

  • As a mid-level analyst this role will handle the more straightforward analyses or will work under direction of a more experienced analyst for complex deliverables.

  • Providing value-add insight by sourcing and pulling down in-house data, modelling and/or forecasting on this data, then packaging the data and drafting (for more complex data) a value-add summary insight for the respective Insight Manager to finalise, in a format which the Exec or Senior Leader can use for a decision.

  • Responsible for quality assuring the data and insight provided to ensure robust and accurate information is given to the Exec and Senior Leader decision-makers

  • The role will have a specialism in one of the key disciplines: Viewing, Social, Subscription (4+) or Product Analytics and will work collaboratively with other Insight Analysts in the Specialist or BP team to draw in other complementary skills and provide robust audience insight.

  • Together with the Business Partner & Reporting Team, the role is responsible for driving the self-service capability (building the proof of concept for the Reporting team to automate for wider C4 self-serve access) to reduce repetitive analysis, cost and improve stakeholder real-time access.

    The ability to analyse data from scratch; breaking down complex or loose questions into creative and logical analyses within relatively short timeframes

  • A good understanding of big data and the ability to manipulate and get meaningful stories from long datasets (often billions of rows) as efficiently as possible

  • Advanced capability in the analysis tools relevant to the specific Analyst role ie:

  • + All roles: Strong capability to write in SQL on complex datasets and conduct data modelling & forecasting
    + Viewing - TechEdge (analysis tool for industry wide viewer data), SQL
    + Product & Subscription (4+) - SQL, Adobe
    + Social - SQL, experience in web analytics platforms such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics and understanding of the user experience of social platforms, eg. Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube
  • MS Office especially Excel & Powerpoint

  • Storytelling -the ability to translate complex data to clear messages and bring well considered, valued recommendations to drive profitable decision-making

  • Collaboration skills -proactive ability to build a collaborative environment within the insights function and across the business to drive the best possible outcome

  • Ability to engage effectively with Insight BP's when presenting back on findings - specifically personal confidence, capability to challenge, debate, advise and recommend solutions.

    The Strategy, Policy & Insight (Function) are trusted thought-leaders bringing expert strategy, policy, market & audience insight - challenging and advising the business to drive delivery of Channel 4's strategy and remit.


  • The new centralised Audience Insights (Subfunction) purpose is to be independent thought leaders at the heart of Channel 4's creative and commercial decision-making, bringing a single source of truth and big picture perspective, challenging and advising the business to ensure profitable business growth through the use of data.

    Within the new centralised operating model where all audience and market insight in C4 is centralised into the Audience Insight team, each C-Suite Leader (CEO, Chief Content Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Revenue Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and the Exec Committee as a body) and their Senior Leaders have a dedicated Insight Business Partner (BP) who prioritizes and agrees their Insight requirements, aligned to the strategic C4 pillars. BP Analysts directly source available analysis and where additional, bespoke research or specialised analysis is required, the BP will commission this from the relevant Specialist Lead (to be delivered by their Insight Analysts) managing jointly the presentation back of recommendations to the C-Suite or Senior Leader.
