Full Job Description

Mercer is hiring a Senior Portfolio Manager to join our Portfolio Management team focused on the Insurance segment. Based in London or Dublin, the Insurance Portfolio Manager will have responsibility for managing portfolios for insurance investors with a particular emphasis on the fixed income asset classes.

The role will involve portfolio design, manager selection and portfolio construction under delegated management and will benefit from the scale and reach of an existing discretionary platform of over $150bn in the International region, Form part of a high performing portfolio management team, responsible for managing >

$150bn of assets under delegated management invested across a range of solutions spanning the full risk and return spectrum

Lead the day-to-day management of investment solutions for Insurance clients from an investment perspective and collaborate with multiple different teams across the business This will include liaising with multi-asset and investment strategy teams as well as back and middle office functions to ensure effective implementation of investment decision making

Contribute to investment philosophy, portfolio construction and manager selection for our insurance client portfolios

Represent the portfolio management team internally and externally (including at C-Suite levels)

Develop a deep understanding of all asset classes relevant for insurance allocators

Pro-actively identify and manage value-added ad hoc projects

Help design and implement new investment solutions while supporting business development and client management initiatives

Present to clients with clarity and confidence backed up by a detailed understanding of the subject matter

Be a subject matter expert across Insurance clients

Help lead the day-to-day management of the team including acting as a mentor / manager

The candidate will be a part of a high-performing portfolio management team with a proven track record of bringing innovative solutions to the market and delivering strong outcomes for clients.

Working closely with numerous teams, the candidate will have unparalleled access to some of the leading investment research across the industry and the role will offer the ability to implement these ideas on behalf of our insurance investors across the International region

The ideal candidate should have a strong experience of working with Insurance investors and deep fixed income expertise as well as a background covering manager selection and portfolio construction with an ambition to grow their career to focus on this specialist area.

Experience managing direct fixed income mandates would be beneficial, Strong understanding of Insurance investor requirements in general, with an emphasis on insurance fixed income markets, including regulatory regimes, typical insurance constraints (ie gain / loss), investment objectives (total return vs book yield), rating agency considerations, etc.

Investment background and highly numerate with an analytical mind-set

Excellent communication skills the ability to effectively present to clients, prospects, market participants and the media

Proven leadership with the ability to influence and challenge

Ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization and build strong internal and external relationships

Critical thinking, naturally curious and a problem-solver, with a-get-involved attitude

Ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively as part of a team

What makes you stand out :

Ideally CFA / CAIA / FSAI / FIA qualified (or similar)

A wealth of investment experience

Organized with a strong attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines

A strong communicator, both internally and externally, and have an ability to navigate across the various teams across Mercer globally
