Full Job Description

When faced with a challenge, are you the type to ask who, what, when, where, and why? If so, we've got an exciting opportunity for you.

As an Intelligence Data Analyst at GCHQ, you'll use bespoke technology to gather information from different sources and apply your analytical skills to make sense of it. It's like putting together a puzzle, with pieces scattered across the digital landscape. Sometimes, you'll discover the answer you're looking for. Other times, you'll have to go down a few rabbit holes to find out more; but that's where the interest lies. It's a unique opportunity to work in a rapidly changing technological environment, where no two days are the same.

We're GCHQ, a world-leading intelligence, cyber and security agency. Our mission? To unlock the complex world of communications and keep the UK safe. Working closely with our partners in the intelligence community, we protect the nation's people, interests, and businesses from all kinds of threats. Our analysts are vital in this, they have helped stop multiple terrorist attacks in a single year, foiled a major cyber-attack from North Korea, and strengthened Ukraine's cyber defences. Their contributions are the sort that can shape headlines, and now you've got the chance to join them.

We won't expect you to know everything when you join. That's why we'll provide you with a comprehensive training and development programme. Once this training is complete, you'll have the option to flex your hours to suit your schedule. While you'll need to be in the office daily to work with classified materials, there's no expectation for you to work weekends or shifts.

At GCHQ diversity and inclusion are critical to our mission. To protect the UK, we need a truly diverse workforce that reflects the society we serve. This includes diversity in every sense of the word: those with different backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, ways of thinking and those with disabilities or neurodivergent conditions. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from everyone, including those from groups that are under-represented in our workforce such as women, those from an ethnic minority background, people with disabilities and those from low socio-economic backgrounds. Find out more about our culture, working environment and diversity on our website.

You don't need a degree, or any previous experience to apply for this role. All that's needed is a Level 2 (GCSE-equivalent) qualification in English Language and Maths at Grade 4/C or above. It's your curiosity, determination, and tenacity that's key here.

To be eligible to apply, you must be a British Citizen. If you hold dual nationality, of which one component is British, you will nonetheless be considered. Candidates must normally have been resident in the UK for seven out of the last ten years. This is particularly important if you were born outside the UK. You can apply at the age of 17 years, if successful you will not be offered a start date prior to your 18th birthday. Full eligibility details can be found on our website.
