Full Job Description

The University of South Wales is seeking an experienced HE professional as Interim Deputy Director of its Academic Registry department. Following the retirement of the Academic Registrar, interim arrangements are being established with an Interim Director having been appointed from the department's senior leadership team. This has created a full time, fixed term (12 months) vacancy at the Deputy Director level. Although there is some flexibility with the length of contract.

This is an important and exciting role providing an opportunity for an engaged and experienced leader to join our Academic Registry team at a university known for its values, friendliness and vision to change lives for the better.

Academic Registry provides a range of services that underpin the student journey, the curriculum journey, academic governance, and quality assurance. We are also responsible for business processes, data governance and registry systems and the delivery of statutory and regulatory returns. The department is structured with the three largest teams reporting into the Deputy Director and the smaller systems, data and statutory returns teams reporting to the Director.

The Deputy Director will directly manage three senior managers who are responsible for the leadership and management of their teams. Our largest offices are at the University's Pontypridd campus, with shared office spaces at Cardiff and Newport also. Like many organisations we have embraced the opportunities of hybrid working, offering flexible approaches to working. Academic Registry colleagues typically spend time in-person around two days a week and work from home for the other working days, coming together on campus more often when necessary for operational delivery or meetings.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of student administration at the University, working with colleagues across Academic Registry, faculties, and professional services. This is a key role leading change in a range of transformational strategic projects, including a new Student Record System. They will need to have senior management experience in student records/administration, from enrolment through to graduation. They should also be familiar with quality assurance frameworks and understanding of regulations and procedures.

The role involves managing a high level of coordination and communication across teams, both within Academic Registry and with the University's faculties and professional services and Student Union, ensuring services are effective and optimal in delivering high performance and an excellent student experience. This will require an experienced leader and manager with strong communication and interpersonal skills and positive proactive approach.

If you are a successful candidate and this position will be your first professional services role at the University (or you are currently employed by PSS Ltd), you will be employed by Professional and Support Services Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of South Wales, which provides services to the University and Colleges.
