Internal Applicants Only - Research Support Officer Centre for Trials Research (CTR) College of Biomedical & Life Sciences The Centre for Trials Research at Cardiff University is a large, multinational community of researchers, professional services staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds. Working as part of a large, diverse team from many different backgrounds you will be responsible for jointly managing the operation of the Centre's Research Support team, including induction and development, line/workload management and monitoring (including the analysis of data to inform management decisions). Ensuring the delivery of the team's input into research studies is key (all in a regulatory compliant way) and these potentially changing needs will require ongoing collaboration with others. This role also has responsibility for aspects of the Centre's broader operational needs, connecting with specialist areas across the University in securing the optimal outcomes for the Centre. With substantial experience of supervising a team (and their work) you should be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge of relevant administrative systems/processes, as well as the ability to set up new/improve existing ones. Experience of managing performance is essential along with the ability to communicate complex information to various audiences. Evidence of initiative, creativity and identifying solutions to problems are all required., Jointly lead and manage the CTR Administration team, and provide Centre-wide research operations support,

  • Manage the operation of the Administration team, planning, organising and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required
  • Manage the performance, induction and development of the team
  • Support and guide team members in welfare issues, escalating as necessary to specialist support areas
  • Ensure the delivery of the team's service level agreements, adapting these according to changes in workload and customer requirements
  • Collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for the development of established processes and procedures
  • Undertake the training of others in areas relating to the teams work
  • Undergo personal and professional development that is appropriate to and which will enhance performance
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts to help improve service levels, developing appropriate communication links with the University's Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required
  • Gather and analyse data to inform management decisions, establishing basic trends and patterns in data and creating reports as appropriate

Evidence of ability to plan the work of a team, reacting to changes in workload and priority Desirable Criteria 1. Degree or an equivalent qualification or equivalent work related experience 2. Experience of working in a Higher Education environment 3. Fluency in Welsh, written and oral

    This is a full-time (35 hours per week), open-ended post based in Heath Park and is available immediately. The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under "blended working" arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed. Salary: £33,232 - £35,880 per annum (Grade 5). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
