Full Job Description

Part of the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust, Spring Brook Academy, provides high quality, innovative alternative educational experiences for pupils and students with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties) across the 5 - 14 age range. We believe passionately in supporting our students to achieve their very best outcomes and overcome their barriers to learning. Our provision is set up to provide high quality, innovative educational provision for 5-14 year olds with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. Our aim is to meet the needs of our young people where they are, supporting them to gain the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to go onto the next stage of their education journey. It is our ambitious goal to support every one of our students to either successfully transfer to our 14-19 provision in Oldham Town Centre, or successfully make the move to another suitable setting. We also believe that we cannot support our young people in isolation, and so always look for innovative ways to support our wider community, the young people's families. This can be through offering a friendly ear / support to the adults around our students through to real, practical support including helping families struggling with the cost of living crisis. Spring Brook Academy is part of the New Bridge Group, a specialist MAT focussed on supporting young people across Oldham, Tameside, Rochdale and Stockport with additional needs. Through the MAT, and our partnerships with wider external agencies, we can support our young people up to the age of 25, ensuring they have the best possible outcomes and move successfully into adulthood. We are looking for innovative and passionate people to become part of a new team, providing face to face mentoring and tutoring support to students in the Key Stage 2 & 3 age range who are struggling to access traditional educational settings. You will be very independent, working on a case-load of students, deploying various skills and techniques supporting young people to become re-engaged with their education. Working under the oversight of a middle leader, and supported by one of the Senior Leadership Team, you will be a crucial element in completely changing the life chances of some of the most vulnerable young people. The option of either all-year or term-time (plus 5) working, along with the potential for flexible working arrangements, will be discussed at interview we are looking for a team of people who will provide the relational support and engagement with young people where they are either physically, so potentially in their home or community venues, and even out of traditional school hours.

  • Previous experience of working with young people of Key Stage 3 or Key Stage 2 school age who may present with challenging behaviour and complex SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) needs, preferably within an educational setting
  • A nurturing and empathetic approach to behaviour management
  • The physical and emotional resilience to support students with complex needs, taking a non-judgemental approach
  • The ability to support teaching and learning within an SEMH setting to a dedicated group of students
  • The ability to model and encourage appropriate social behaviour in and out of school and to cater for the general welfare of students.
  • The ability to work as part of a team using own initiative when needed
  • Willingness to participate in own professional development
  • Must be able to drive and have access to a car
  • We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment.
