Full Job Description

We're looking for someone with experience supporting IT server and desktop infrastructure to join our friendly and collaborative team as an IT Infrastructure Engineer. You'll provide 3rd line technical support and ensure core infrastructure systems are kept up and always running so that city council staff and Milton Keynes residents have consistent and reliable access to essential IT services. This role is based in our Civic offices, but there will be an opportunity to work from home up to two days a week, subject to business need. Interviews for this role will be held on 24 October,

  • Support the Council's IT infrastructure platform, SCCM and MDM configuration.
  • Support and maintain the Council's virtual server infrastructure (Azure native / Azure VMware Solution / Hyper-V).
  • Maintain and manage the Council's security software on servers and endpoints.
  • Own, manage and resolve support calls to resolve incidents and deliver service requests.
  • Act as a resource in the delivery of projects - you'll work closely with other IT teams, providing professional technical advice and guidance to enable them to achieve their goals.

    An experienced IT support engineer, educated to A level or equivalent, or holding a NVQ level 3, BTEC or equivalent qualification in IT.
  • Excellent knowledge of core Microsoft services (For example: Active Directory, DHCP, DNS), SCCM and Intune, and virtualisation technologies (Azure / VMware / Hyper-V).
  • An ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, at both technical and non-technical levels.
  • Ability to rapidly learn new skills and technologies, adapt to change, and keep up to date with developments in the modern IT world.
  • Good organisational skills and able to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines. You should also be able to work on your own initiative, sometimes under pressure.
  • Someone who is flexible - you might be asked to work outside core hours at times or be called into the office to deal with issues during emergency situations.
