Full Job Description
The project is a 5-year, £2.7 million research programme funded by the NIH (USA) to address the epidemiology of hereditary angioedema and evaluate effective prophylactic interventions to prevent or delay future risk of complications. The project is led by a multi-disciplinary international team from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (USA), King's College London, Lund University (Sweden), and Semmelweis University (Hungary). We are currently looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic, post-doctoral researcher in quantitative data science to join our team at King's College London. The primary role of the post-holder will be to lead projects involving quantitative analysis of linked electronic health records across the primary and secondary care settings.
The appointed researcher will work on a National institute of Health (US) funded project exploring the risk of major vascular events in the short, medium and long-term in people living with hereditary angioedema, an autosomal-dominant disease resulting from mutation in C1-inhibitor gene, using real-world datasets. This is an exciting chance to join a multidisciplinary international team to evaluate predictors of future vascular and mental health complications and effective prophylactic treatment interventions. The post holder will lead on data analyses and write up of findings for scientific publications and funder report. This role is well suited to a person who is not daunted by large-scale complex dataset and to those keen to expand their analytical skills and publication record.
This is a part time post (3-days per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 31 December 2025., We pride ourselves on being inclusive and welcoming. We embrace diversity and want everyone to feel that they belong and are connected to others in our community.
We are committed to working with our staff and unions on these and other issues, to continue to support our people and to develop a diverse and inclusive culture at King's.
We ask all candidates to submit a copy of their CV, and a supporting statement, detailing how they meet the essential criteria listed in the advert. If we receive a strong field of candidates, we may use the desirable criteria to choose our final shortlist, so please include your evidence against these where possible.
To find out how our managers will review your application, please take a look at our 'How we Recruit' pages.
In-person interviews are due to be held week commencing 20 January 2024.
We are not able to offer sponsorship for candidates who do not currently possess the right to work in the UK.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience, 1. A PhD in epidemiology, statistics, or other relevant degree with a substantial analytical and methodological component
2. Excellent working knowledge of and experience of a range of statistical and epidemiological techniques using Stata, R, Python, or equivalent
3. Experience of assembly and management of large complex databases and design, maintenance and interrogation of relational databases
4. Hands on experience working with complex, longitudinal administrative data and/or electronic health record data
5. Well-articulated interest in health research, epidemiology, population health, mental and physical long-term conditions
6. Demonstrable organisational skills and the ability to prioritise workload in order to meet deadlines and targets
7. Excellent communication skills (e.g., experience in writing for publication in peer reviewed journals and findings presentation to wider audiences)
8. Ability to work to own initiatives as well as being part of a team
Desirable criteria
1. Experience of teaching on undergraduate and/or taught postgraduate programmes and to supervise BSc/MSc projects
2. Experience of or willingness to co-supervise postgraduate taught (MSc) dissertations
3. Experience working to deliverable deadlines
4. Publications incorporating advanced/novel statistical methodology
Applications are invited for a talented and motivated post-doctoral researcher to join the epidemiology research group at the Psychological Medicine department, Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London. The team comprises a young team of multi-disciplinary researchers, clinical fellows, and PhD students led by Dr Alex Dregan. We are investigating the interplay between mental and physical long-term conditions to translate research evidence into effective population health policies and improved patient-centred outcomes.
