Full Job Description

SSE Thermal's Business Development department is seeking a Joint Venture (JV) Manager to join the Partnerships and Acquisitions team. This is an opportunity to be part of a team responsible for governing SSE's investments in development JVs delivering high profile energy projects. The JV Manager will act as the principle day-to-day interface for Thermal's development JVs and the wider SSE organisation, as well as managing SSE's relationship with the JV and its partners. The role offers extensive development opportunities by working within a supportive, fast paced, and experienced team, all while supporting the delivery of SSE Thermal's strategic growth ambitions. By performing this role, the successful candidate will build a strong track record in commercial asset management, as well as gain experience in JV set up, M&A implementation, and energy projects at the core of the UK's energy transition., Delivery of SSE's JV asset management process, including advising SSE's Board Members on board resolutions, monitoring JV performance, co-ordinating SSE's representatives on JV committees, and ensuring JVs comply with SSE's corporate standards.

- Develop working knowledge of all matters related to the functioning of the JV including familiarity with the commercial and legal agreements, key project milestones, business plans, budgets, strategies, and risk management plans. This includes co-ordinating the renewal and updating of these documents as needed.

- Active in the design and set-up of new JVs, working as part of an M&A transaction team to lead on implementation planning. Responsible for delivery of the implementation plan in newly established JVs from Day One.

- Relationship management both externally with key individuals in the JV and with JV partners, and internally covering SSE's board members, JV committee members, secondees, assurance teams, and subject matter experts.

- Leading on preparing SSE's investment decisions for JVs, including drafting internal mandate documents and managing the assurance processes.

Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, engineering, or a related field preferred, with good commercial judgement and acumen with an ability to identify and evaluate key value drivers and risks.

- Excellent communication, influencing, and relationship skills with the ability to establish and manage individual business relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders. Able to represent SSE at senior levels acting independently while demonstrating leadership on SSE's safety culture and core values.

- Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team through a well managed process to produce and structure high quality papers and presentations for senior executives. Documents will include investment proposals, business plans, budget papers, business strategies, and presentation of commercial opportunities.

- Collaborative working style with demonstrated ability to deliver results as part of a team and ability to regularly re-prioritise work, remaining organised and resilient in a fast-moving delivery environment.

- A good understanding of the energy industry, in particular thermal power generation, power markets and regulations targeted at delivering the UK's transition to a low-carbon energy system. Experience of working on large capital projects in the energy industry would be an advantage, as well as knowledge of establishing and governing JVs.

Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing.
