Full Job Description

This role is advertised as part of our BBC Extend programme for disabled people. To apply for this role you should identify as deaf, disabled or neurodivergent and must meet either: the definition of disability in the Equality Act (2010), or the definition of disability in the Disability Discrimination Act (1995) if applying in Northern Ireland. You're broadly defined as disabled under both acts if you have a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term negative or adverse effect on your ability to do normal daily activities. This definition includes both apparent and non-apparent conditions and impairments, and medical conditions such as Cancer, HIV or Multiple Sclerosis., This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the truly multi-media and fast paced regional and local news operation based in Bristol, and covering the West Country. This part-time role will suit someone who is comfortable and enthusiastic about undertaking a wide range of tasks - from carrying out the role of a News Transmission Assistant during live television programmes, dealing with copyright issues, to undertaking basic editorial research. The ideal candidate will have a genuine and keen interest in regional and local news and current affairs and have an understanding of what our audiences like. We are keen to find a versatile, flexible and hard working Journalism Co Ordinator who understands how BBC Local is changing and developing - and wants to join us to help us to make it happen.,

  • Assisting with the deployment of camera crews and other staff

  • Undertaking News Transmission Assistant duties in the newsroom and television gallery during live programmes

  • Accurately compiling copyright information

  • Editorial research whilst working with on the day or planning journalists

  • Various other tasks and responsibilities, as required, at base, and sometimes on location, to support our digital and television team

    Experience of working in a multi-media newsroom - and a good understanding of the main TV production methods

  • Live television gallery experience is desirable, as is the ability to work confidently and reliably as a News Transmission Assistant (NTA) on live news programmes

  • Ability to operate a range of simple technical equipment during live broadcasts - or the desire to learn

  • Experience of using editing software is an advantage

  • Proven basic journalism and research experience and skills - and an enthusiasm to offer ideas for stories and features

  • Organised, able to identify priorities and work collaboratively with colleagues, with excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Contract: Fixed Term - 18 months

  • Part time: 1 day per week (usually Friday)
    Job Band: B Salary Range: £24,280 - £32,400
