Full Job Description

This post, which compliments the existing SHO posts on PICU, offers a structured training in Critical Care Paediatrics. It is aimed at Paediatricians who wish to improve their skills in assessment, stabilisation and management of the critically ill child prior to acquiring an NTN., Based on PICU you will be involved in critical care paediatrics. The PICU has 6 beds and the PHDU 6 beds, with 400 admissions per year. Our retrieval service transports around 100 children per year. Training in Paediatric Intensive Care is given. The opportunities for research, audit, education and training are excellent.

You will contribute to a Critical Care full shift system with out of hours cover dedicated to PICU.

The PICU at QMC admits approximately 6-700 patients/year. We are a specialist unit for Nephrology, Major trauma, Neurosurgery, Oncology, and Spinal surgery, as well as supporting patients with medical conditions (please see below for full list of all specialties). Surgical care is provided for children with complex neonatal problems, as well as neurosurgery, E.N.T, general and spinal surgery. Currently over 80% of the admissions require at least Level 2 care and patients are equally distributed between medical and surgical specialties. All paediatric specialties, other than cardiac surgery, are supported by PICU.
