Working for our organisation
The Maxillofacial Department of St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust consists of seven consultant Maxillofacial Surgeons. All inpatient work is carried out at St George's Hospital where there is an expanding head and neck unit. Outpatient services and Day-Case facilities are also provided at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The inpatient facilities at St George's consist of a 22 bed adult ward shared with ENT. There is also a separate Day Care Unit. Outpatients clinics are held daily and there are operating sessions each day. Head and neck oncology patients are managed within a multidisciplinary team including
maxillofacial surgery, ENT, plastic surgery, clinical oncology and allied health care professionals. The Maxillofacial head and neck consultants are Mr Jayaram, Mr G Smith and Mr K Andi.

The post holder will need to demonstrate their ability to work at ST1/2 level to cover both the department's outpatient and inpatient services.
This is mainly on St George's site but under exceptional circumstances you may be required to work at one of our peripheral hospitals.
Outpatient work consists of the management of patients in the general outpatient clinics with responsibility compatible with the ST1/2 equivalent experience and providing the opportunity to see new patients as well as follow up patents.
The inpatients work consists of the general management of pre-operative and post-operative patients for all Maxillofacial emergencies and planned operations. The ST1/2 equivalent will be responsible for the arrangement of the essential pre-operative investigations and treatment and carrying out the various administrative duties in preparation for the theatre sessions. You would also be required to communicate with general practitioners on the progress and treatment of patients who have been admitted. The majority of patients are clerked in the outpatients with the
help of a nurse practitioner.
