Full Job Description

Birmingham Children's Hospital is looking to appoint a Junior Clinical Fellow (ST1-ST2) in Paediatric Hepatology available to start asap, in October 2024 on a fixed-term/full-time contract for a duration of 6 months (with possible further extension to 12 months).

The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with both medical and surgical teams., Duties will include:

Day to day management of children with all forms of liver disease, including the peri-operative care of children receiving liver transplantation, and liver and small bowel transplantation including:

Examination and clinical assessment of in-patients

Cannulation and phlebotomy of paediatric patients

Requesting and chasing investigations

Presenting patients on ward round

Supporting Physician associates in prescribing on ward

The appointed candidate may have the opportunity to support the out of hours weekend long day service rota, working under the supervision of a registrar.

The candidate will not be required to work over night as this is covered by the Hospital at Night out-of-hours service system.

Training entry level will depend on level of experience in working in the specialty as well as experience of having worked in the UK before.

Applicants will possess MBBS or equivalent and will be expected to have completed foundation training or equivalent. Clinical experience in phlebotomy and prescribing is essential. Some experience in paediatrics would be desirable.
