Full Job Description
The role is aimed at doctors who have completed Internal Medical Training (IMT), wishing to gain further experience and training in gastroenterology. The successful applicant will coordinate and help to deliver undergraduate training for medical students rotating through the Department of Gastroenterology at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital within Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as well as provide inpatient and outpatient care under appropriate supervision. This post will also include medical on calls on the GIM registrar rota.
The role will be vacant from January 2025, and a 6 month contract provided to the successful applicant (with the option to extend if appropriate).
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be assigned an educational supervisor and receive training in luminal gastroenterology, hepatology and an aim to receive training in endoscopy. They will receive full exposure to both inpatient and outpatient luminal gastroenterology and hepatology. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake audit, quality improvement and research projects, as well as to attend clinical governance meetings, mortality and morbidity meetings and Multi Disciplinary Team meetings.
The post will involve being a dedicated undergraduate coordinator for medical students from the University of Liverpool. The coordinator would be expected to devise timetables, be an educational supervisor and deliver teaching to medical students.
If there are no suitable applicants with completion of Internal Medical Training, consideration will be given to applicants with completion of Foundation Training only. The timetable would be amended accordingly, with work being ward-based when not coordinating or teaching undergraduates.
