Full Job Description
We are looking for two full time Trust Grade Senior House Officer (ST1-3) in General Paediatrics and one in Neonatology, based at Watford General Hospital. The duration of the post is for 6 months from 04/12/2024 to 06/05/2025, with the possibility for further contract extension for the right candidate. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a busy and vibrant Paediatric department. Our Neonatal unit is a designated local Neonatal Unit (Level 2) within the East of England operational delivery network. The General Paediatric rotation will include the assessment and management of children and young people in the Children's Emergency Department, Paediatric Assessment Unit, Inpatient ward and Day-care settings. The Neonatal rotation will include Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Special Care Baby Unit, Labour Ward, Transitional Care unit, Postnatal ward. The post holder would work as part of the tier 1 General Paediatric rota including daytime, out of hours and weekend work. The General Paediatric post holders would rotate between the Paediatric department at Watford Hospital comprising an 18-20 bed Starfish Children's Ward with dedicated 2 bedded HDU, the Children's Emergency Department and 7 bedded Paediatric Assessment Unit. The Neonatal post holders would rotate between Neonatal ICU, Special Care Baby Unit, Labour Ward, Transitional Care, Postnatal ward, Children's Emergency Department and Paediatric Assessment Unit. The Main duties of the post will involve seeing, diagnosing, and treating paediatric patients, referring to other clinicians or general practitioners where appropriate. The successful post holders can expect to gain experience in understanding of the assessment and management of common disease in children as well as develop competence in the common practical procedures needed for paediatric patients. During the duration of the contract in this department, doctors are expected to become competent at organising the day-to-day duties of the clinical areas. The post holder would be expected to participate in all the clinical, educational and training activities of the department. There would be a wide range of experience to be gained in General Paediatrics, Neonatology and its sub-specialities. With a new hospital planned for Watford and work underway to update theatres at St Albans City Hospital, this is an exciting time to join us. - Responsible for managing patients with the acute problems in the inpatient ward, Children's Emergency Department and Paediatric Assessment Unit in Watford
- Covering the Safari Day unit adjacent to the in-patient ward.
- Working closely under the supervision of middle grades, Consultants and other professionals involved in patient care.
- Taking an active role in weekly education grand round meetings and micro teaching. The post holder would be expected to participate in all activities of the department including:
- Weekly Paediatric and Neonatal teaching, Simulation and Journal Clubs
- Audit and Clinical Governance meetings
- Attendance at Paediatric sub-specialty clinics
- Study leave entitlement
- Audit and research activities
