Full Job Description

Critical Care Fellow posts have come available within the department of Perioperative Medicine, with a start date of February 4th 2025

Applicants can be from any anaesthetic, emergency/acute medical or surgical background.

Training and experience consistent with a FY2 or greater is a minimum requirement.

The hospital has fifteen operating theatres, including two laminar flow orthopaedic theatres, specialist Ophthalmic and ENT theatres, and two theatres in the maternity unit.

Main duties of the job

The hospital has fifteen operating theatres, including two laminar flow orthopaedic theatres, specialist Ophthalmic and ENT theatres, and two theatres in the maternity unit.

Critical Care provision is delivered across two critical care units - ICU 1, a 9 bedded unit which was completely refurbished in December 2022; and ICU 2, an 8 bedded unit that was opened in January 2017 following a £2.3 million refurbishment. There are around 800-900 critical care admissions across the two units per year.

Post holders will have the opportunity to be in both theatres and critical care during some of their 'standard' days. This will allow those with an anaesthetic background to continue practising their skills and for those of different backgrounds to be taught a wide variety of new skills in a supportive environment. Post holders will also have an opportunity for active involvement in Local Quality Improvement Project development and should read the JD for further details.

The post holders will work a 1:8 on-call rota.

All appointments are extendable for longer by mutual consent.
