Full Job Description

This role is a perfect opportunity for someone keen to break into their career as a Project Manager. Your main responsibilities will be delivering a range of internal, central function projects and supporting the central PMO. You will deliver projects within timescales and budgets, ensuring smooth and successful implementation and start up; therefore, we are looking for someone with experience of working in a PMO environment with/or a relevant qualification in Project Management.

The successful candidate will support the PMO by collecting, collating and reporting key data for projects in the Project Management Office such that overall status, issues and risks, milestone attainment, costs and benefits realisation are tracked and reported to key stakeholders. You will collaborate with a range of internal business functions including Operations, IT, IFF (International Freight Forwarding), HR, Customs and HS&E, orchestrating activities to deliver the necessary scope, whilst managing risks and issues.

The role will offer a salary of £40,000 per annum plus a £5000 per annum car allowance. You will work remotely up to 4 times per week (Subject to Business Requirements) with a requirement to travel across sites.

  • Key Responsibilities
    1. Project Management
    a. Ensure internal projects are correctly scoped and defined with clear objectives, appropriate workstreams and activities.
    b. Create project plans in accordance with the required project activity and workstreams, ensuring that project teams are resourced correctly.
    c. Manage projects to cost, quality and time, adhering to the Yusen project management methodology and implement the agreed framework and governance into each project
    d. Coordinate internal workstreams/resources and third-party vendors in line with defined project deliverables
    e. Conduct rigorous assessment of project risks, monitor and control until project closure/handover, highlighting any deviances or issues as appropriate in a timely manner
    f. Report on project success criteria results and perform post project reviews and improvement plans
    2. Communication
    a. Schedule and facilitate project meetings, steering committees and other meetings as required, preparing presentations and materials as necessary
    b. Ensure regular project updates are provided into the PMO and with key stakeholders
    c. Provide status reporting regarding project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks and issues
    d. Escalate issues and concerns as appropriate to steering group/ Project Sponsor
    e. Document and communicate project 'lessons learned' in conjunction with the company methodology to support and promote a culture of continuous improvement
    f. Communicating across leadership
    3. People & PMO Data Management
    a. Identify skills required in the project team to meet the business objectives. Support development of the team via effective advice and coaching as necessary
    b. Ensure compliance with company procedures and policies, both in terms of self and across the project team
    c. Develop and maintain the portfolio master data repository for all projects managed by the PMO, ensuring that key information is maintained, including milestone adherence, project status and commentary, risks and issues, financial status and other pertinent information.

  • Relevant Project Management qualification is strongly desirable

  • Good presentation skills - able to develop clear slides containing project metrics and graphs

  • Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the different phases of a project lifecycle

  • Experience in a PMO environment, including managing and reporting on project information and metrics

  • Self-motivated, driven and capable of remote work

  • A thorough approach and excellent eye for detail in every task undertaken

  • Able to remain positive, calm and focused when under pressure from key stakeholders

  • Ambitious, open for development; willingness to learn and adapt.

  • Well presented, confident, and motivated individual

  • A team player, with ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
