Full Job Description

Quality control (QC) is a vital part of ensuring that Hogarth produces the best work brilliantly. As a Junior QC-Proofreader, you will work closely with the Dyson copy team to ensure that all copy matrices are quality-controlled and kept fully up to date against campaign creative. You will also be responsible for producing content to support accessibility, including video transcripts and ALT-text. You will have a good eye for detail to spot even the smallest of errors and you will be able to communicate clearly how something should be corrected. You will have great communication, organisation and time-management skills, with an overriding focus on producing work to the highest standards.

Responsibilities -
The usual tasks for a Junior QC-Proofreader include, but are not limited to:

  • Reading and marking up copy - the 'traditional' job of the proofreader, which can include:

  • o Flagging any spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
o Highlighting where text does not make sense.
    o Checking client-specific terminology.
o Checking a contents page is correct and page numbers are in order.
o Flagging widows and orphans for editing.
o Checking that image captions, diagrams, data visualisations, etc. all correspond with a text.
o Checking footnotes and that they have been attributed correctly.

  • Ensuring all copy matrices are aligned with the creative assets produced by Dyson studio teams and checking for any missing lines of copy or discrepancies.

  • Working closely with the Dyson copy team to maintain copy matrices and keeping all copy lines fully up to date should there be any changes to campaign messaging.

  • Producing transcripts of video files and writing ALT-text for imagery to aid accessibility.

  • Checking a file type meets Dyson's requirements - for example, PDF, DOC, PPT, JPG, etc.

  • Checking work against Dyson's brand guidelines or campaign-specific guidelines.

  • Identifying necessary changes and marking up annotations clearly and concisely using the mark-up and comment tools in Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

  • Working collaboratively with other members of the other Dyson teams as well as the Hogarth onsite team.

The Junior QC-Proofreader will be based on site at the client's head office (a minimum of two days a week in the office) and report into the QC-Proofreader who is part of Hogarth's onsite team (also based in the client's office).

  • Mac user with good knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and its comment tools.

  • Competent in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

  • Comfortable with proofreading and marking up content on screen.

  • An interest in and willingness to learn about print and digital production.

  • Self-motivated, calm under pressure and able to communicate confidently and clearly.
