Junior Radiographer

The post holder will work as a general rotational radiographer throughout imaging core services at The Royal London Hospital, with some rotation to Mile End Hospital.
The aim of this role is to provide high quality imaging and patient care. The post holder will need to contribute to delivering a safe, effective and efficient imaging service that adheres to the Trust's WeCare values. The post holder will also be obligated to participate in the out of hours imaging roster which provides 7 days working.
The post holder will be responsible for a variable caseload of imaging, for modalities such as:
+ Plain film imaging (inpatients, outpatients,ED and paediatrics)
+ Endoscopy
+ Fluoroscopy
+ Mobile Fluoroscopy
+ Dental Imaging
+ DEXA (possibility to be trained
The post holder will work closely with Radiographers and clinical staff of all grades in the safe, prompt and effective imaging of patients. They will do so whilst observing local and national guidelines and always in accordance with the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations, + The post holder will work to the highest standards possible and work in accordance with the Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR17) and the Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations; IR(ME)R (2017).
+ Assesses the clinical justification of referrals in accordance with IR(ME)R (2017) and local protocols, as well as to liaise with referrers and radiologists to select the most appropriate imaging procedure
+ Review images produced and in the absence of a radiologist, ensure that any additional imaging procedures are acquired prior to the patient leaving the department.
+ Bring to the attention of the radiologist (or referring clinician in their absence) the presence of any pathology that may suggest urgent medical intervention is indicated.
+ Be able to articulate the radiographic procedure, and complex or sensitive information in language suitable to a wide variant of patients with specific and individual needs.
+ Communicate effectively with patients and escorts throughout their journey in the department and the potential outcome of the examination.
+ Ensure that infection control measures are adopted, with attention to personal protection and protection of equipment and other patients.
+ Know how to recognise and ensure that equipment is being used safely, and when it would be appropriate to intervene to maintain staff or patient safety
Information management
+ Accurately record data inputs concerning the examination for the purposes of patient record integrity and statistical purposes. This involves use of the hospital (CRS) and radiology computer systems (RIS) and the picture archiving system (PACS)
+ Monitor, report and / or correct any lack of data accuracy in RIS or PACS.
+ Be familiar with the operation of all relevant IT systems.
+ Handle patient information in a discreet and professional way in line with The Data Protection Act.
+ The post holder will be expected to escalate to the site lead radiographer / modality lead radiographer any expected breach in the handling of confidential information by their direct colleagues.
Education/Professional Development
+ Maintain a high level of technical and theoretical radiographic skills through personal CPD.
+ Train & teach undergraduate students, apprentice radiographers, and provide professional support.
+ Apply any learning from CPD to manage any change within the imaging department which will improve patient care and quality.
Operational Delivery
+ Participate in safe manual handling of patient and equipment within the hospital using risk assessment and co-operation with other members of staff.
+ Adapt to changes in working practices in response to development of the service.
+ Monitor, report, and document faults with imaging equipment.
+ Liaise with portering services to ensure patients arrive in department on time and with the correct clinical support
Risk & Governance Management
+ Identify and report any risks, incidents or near misses on the Trust Datix system.
