Job Title: Junior Software Engineer

Location: Warton / Samlesbury (Lancashire) We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: £35,047 – £45,154 (Commensurate with skills and experience)

What you’ll be doing:

As a Junior Software Engineer, you will be working on world beating aircraft products, creating cutting edge software for our hardware systems and be involved in the entire lifecycle of a product, from design and development to integration. Working closely with systems and test engineers, you will enable the development of complex real-world systems that have to perform perfectly every time, as they will be used in real world combat. This could be on our Eurofighter Typhoon, our aircraft simulators, the F-35 or even helping define the future of air defence on Tempest.

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Degree in a relevant STEM subject – Software Engineering, IT, Computing, Physics or Maths

Desirable:

  • An understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from requirements & design through to delivery
  • Familiarity with software development processes (e.g. design, coding, unit testing), experience of development tools (e.g. UML design tools, code IDEs)
  • Experience in at least one of:
    • Embedded software C++/Ada/Rust
    • Desktop-based applications (Java and Eclipse RCP or C#/C++)
    • Web-oriented applications and services (Java/C#, JSP, HTML, CSS, Apache middleware)
    • Business intelligence/analytics tools and techniques (ETL, SQL, Python)
    • Windows or Linux target environments
    • Object-oriented design/development including UML

The Air Software Engineering Teams:

Working within a large team, this role will provide you with mentoring, support, training and guidance provided by experienced team members who will teach you how to develop software solutions that make a real difference to our customers in battlespace on a daily basis. You will learn to design, implement, maintain, debug and upgrade software products applying your academic learning into the real world.
