Full Job Description

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and hardworking doctor to join our Acute Medicine Department as Junior specialist doctor - Higher at MMUH, Sandwell Hospital, West Bromwich and City Hospital, Birmingham with effect from as soon as possible. This post will be a 12 months fixed term post in the first instance with the possibility of longer term opportunities within the Trust subject to performance and progress.

This post would be at middle grade level (ie 3/4 years post qualification/post foundation level). The successful candidates will have extensive experience post qualification, full MRCP, full GMC Registration with a license to practice and up to date ALS certification. Recent acute hospital experience at ST 3 level or equivalent (within the last 12 months) of at least 6 months duration is desirable. Previous General Medicine experience would be essential and knowledge of the workings of the NHS is preferable.

Leading on SDEC (same day emergency care) and work with ED to improve patient journey. Carry out Acute medicine virtual Clinics. Opportunity to have a specialty session to develop further interest in Acute Medicine. On the AMU Focused USS such as FICE, CUSIC and FAMUS will be taught. Correspond with General Practitioners in a timely manner (of site secretarial support is available). Participation in medical student teaching (and MRCP teaching) will be encouraged. Research/Audit will be supported as appropriate. Participation in weekly Medical meetings at City Hospital. Provide mutual cover for colleagues for annual and study leave. Participate in GIM Middle grade rota. Wellbeing of our staff members is our utmost priority.

3. Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives, Acute Medicine at SWBH NHS Trust is a fundamental specialty, which has grown dramatically over a matter of years. Acute Medicine has been credited by the Trust and is critical to the day-to-day flow of the hospital. The Acute Physicians are heavily involved in strategic decision-making and play a large role in leadership, management and education with the Trust. As Acute Physicians we are responsible for the first 72 hours of care of our sick medical patients. We look after a range of patients from the very sick, to those that need diagnostics and discharge to ambulatory care and admission avoidance. We house Level 1 beds and have large SDEC area as well as short stay units. We deliver prompt senior decision making on the AMU's with continual presence of acute physicians on the AMU's. We work in line with the Society Acute Medicine (SAM) Standards and perform well within the key performance indicators.
