Full Job Description

The London Borough of Waltham Forest is looking for two dedicated and experienced Kennels / Transport Officers to join our Neighbourhoods Management team on a temporary basis. This role is vital in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of dogs within our Council facilities and during transportation. If you have a passion for animal welfare and the necessary skills, we encourage you to apply., Ensure the well-being and proper care of all dogs within the Council's kennels.
Safely collect, accept, and transport dogs as required.
Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the kennel facilities.
Monitor and report any signs of communicable diseases or health concerns.
Handle dogs, including those that may be aggressive or dangerous, in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act and the Dangerous Dogs Act.
Deal effectively with members of the public and manage confrontations when necessary.
Report any defects in vehicles and equipment promptly.
Work flexibly, including shifts outside normal hours, evenings, and weekends as required by the service.

A valid driving license and own transport are essential.
Proven experience working in a kennels environment, comfortable working in all weather conditions.
Experience in handling aggressive and dangerous dogs is crucial.
Sound working knowledge of the Animal Welfare Act and the Dangerous Dogs Act.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong communication skills and ability to deal with the public, including in challenging situations.
Shift Pattern:
This role requires flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends. The ability to adapt to changing shift patterns based on service requirements is essential.
