Full Job Description

Purley Gardens Care Home, located in Purley, are currently recruiting for a creative, dedicated and enthusiastic team player to join us as Commis Chef. As Commis Chef, you will help serve meals and clear dishes at residents' tables and prepare, wash, and store dishes, as well as keeping the kitchen clean.
The key responsibilities of our Commis Chef include:

  • Assist Chefs in cleaning food serving areas and equipment including deep cleaning on a regular basis.

  • Assist chef with food preparation.

  • Assist with kitchen service at mealtimes.

  • Work as part of the Food Service Team to ensure smooth, efficient and safe operation of the kitchen.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with all residents, family, visitors and colleagues., As an Avery Chef de Partie Apprentice, you will run a section of your care home kitchen, for example, sauces, pastries, or fish. Typically, you will manage a small team of workers, ensuring dishes go out on time and the work area remains clean.

  • Senior Chef Apprenticeship in Production Cooking


  • As a Senior Chef Apprentice in Production Cooking, you will manage a team to produce standardised dishes and menus within your care home kitchen. You will be accountable for the day-to-day running of the kitchen, including producing, monitoring, and maintaining consistent food standards.

    These apprenticeships will allow you to hone your skills, increase your knowledge and take on additional responsibilities; all whilst working in your Avery care home. Enrolling with our Chef Academy will give you real-world experience, as you learn from experts first-hand in a working kitchen environment.
