Full Job Description

The post holder will take department wide responsibility for all aspects of service delivery at the Aintree site. They will have in depth knowledge of the science behind all procedures in order to be able to train/educate and problem solve. The post holder will be expected to undertake departmental managerial duties as delegated by the Service Manager., To assess the suitability and appropriateness of samples submitted to the laboratory and to take remedial action when required. To analyse specimens for screening, diagnostic and clinical management of patients using complex, specialised and very expensive equipment. To interpret technical validity for results which may be anomalous, incomplete, complex or conflicting, using professional knowledge and experience. To ensure correct technical validation of results to allow Clinical Scientists and/or Medical staff to provide appropriate medical intervention. The post holder will be the senior person on site for significant periods. Take a lead role in department wide responsibilities: - ongoing evaluation and management of systems/procedures for the collection/collation/presentation of internal quality control data and external quality assurance reports. - On going evaluation and management of systems/procedures to enable efficient and effective stock control. - On going evaluation and management of pre and post analytical systems/procedures to enable efficient workflow through the department and effective storage systems compliant with current legislation. - Responsible for the creation, evaluation and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures. - Ensure that support staff, trainee Biomedical Scientists, trainee Clinical Scientists and Medical staff working in the section are suitably managed and trained.

An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen within Liverpool Clinical Laboratories for a motivated individual to take up the role of Biochemistry Laboratory Manager on our Aintree site. The post will be multi-site based for a period of 10 months. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wishes to further develop their leadership and management skills in a dynamic department. The successful candidate will have a positive approach to the role. They will be able to demonstrate resilience and have already established leadership skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate key strengths in both individual and team communication and will have an in-depth knowledge of the science behind the processing order to exercise good judgement.,

  • Bachelor of Science degree
  • HCPC Registration
  • MSc or FIBMS qualification or equivalent
  • Must maintain a professional development portfolio
  • Desirable criteria
  • Formal management qualification, Extensive clinical and in depth technical experience of the areas managed and all the metholdologies, analytical instrumentation and operational procedures appertaining to that laboratory
  • Significant post registration experience
  • Proven managerial experience
  • Ability to analyse and resolve complex problems
  • Highest level of technical ability enabling resolution of difficult and multi-factorial instrument/analytical problems
  • Desirable criteria
  • Ability to design and implement training programmes for Medical Laboratory Assistants, Biomedical Scientists and contribute to training of Clinical Scientists and junior Medical staff., You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
