Full Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to provide critical, on-site support as part of a PerkinElmer lab service team. The role is responsible for a broad range of tasks to ensure the efficient operations within the customer lab space, to give time back to the scientists. These responsibilities require great customer service and drive to succeed to provide a quality service. To provide support the PerkinElmer OneSource Scientific Services on the Customer's Stevenage site.,

  • Perform routine calibration/verification checks on a range of laboratory equipment such as pH meters and balances.

  • Set up and operation of a wide range of standard lab equipment.

  • Prepare aliquots and labelling.

  • Prepare QC standards.

  • Prepare materials and equipment for use.

  • Undertake in-lab tasks for scientific staff to agreed protocols, e.g., radioactive and environment monitoring.

  • Clean and disinfect of lab equipment such as incubators, hoods and safety cabinets.

  • Maintain lab stock such as consumables and solvents.

  • Operate to approved quality standards (e.g., GxP).

  • Maintain QA systems by keeping accurate records of work undertaken, methods used, and results achieved.

  • Ensure safe operation of equipment used (e.g., balances, pH meters, fume cupboards).

  • Grow and maintain cell lines to be used in assay work.

  • Ensure aseptic technique is adhered to in the maintenance of cells and compliance to Health and Safety procedures for own well-being and quality of final product.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant working instructions, SOPs and safety instructions.

  • Be responsible for maintaining a tidy and efficient laboratory environment.

  • Liaise with customer groups to discuss their requirements, agree protocols for new tasks and escalate to Line Manager as required.

  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of data.

  • Maintain training and compliance in areas of health and safety, security, environmental and operational aspects of daily activities in the working environment., Must be able to work in a laboratory, controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses, etc.) in laboratory.

  • Job pace may be fast and job completion demands may be high.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position more than 25% of the time

  • The person needs to occasionally move between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite Frequently operate on instruments, objects, tools or controls, which will require regularly bending, squatting, stretching and reaching in order to perform in a service function.

  • Occasionally move or lift up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds).

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include without limitation, the ability to observe details at close range distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus in order to perform the essential service functions of this position.

  • Occasionally operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Employee may be required to handle hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations. Duties may include identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing and labeling hazardous waste.

  • Potential risk to lab-based hazards including but not limited to extreme temperature, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.

  • May be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.

    Knowledge and understanding of COSHH, GMP and GLP principles (preferable)

  • Ability to work on own initiative and unsupervised to deadlines, planning, organizing, and setting priorities for own work, demonstrating organizational and time management skills

  • Computer literacy and able to communicate using various platforms, Educated to A-level with laboratory experience in a relevant scientific discipline OR

  • Educated to University level in a relevant discipline with basic laboratory experience/knowledge
