Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join our Liverpool FC team as a Lead Academy Performance Nutritionist.In this role, you will design and deliver a nutrition programme and education syllabus for Liverpool FC Academy players working alongside the First Team Lead Performance Nutritionist to ensure continuity in nutrition support across all levels at Liverpool FC. What will you be doing? Service Delivery

  • Adopt a 'food-focused' education approach to optimise health, growth and performance with U8-U18 players as well as managing the nutrition provision to u21 and transition players.
  • Develop and deliver player-centred nutrition programmes and provide individualised 1-1 nutrition support to young players in the academy, including loan players.
  • Implement nutrition strategies to support young players' training, competitive and rehabilitation programmes whilst demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of the science that supports sports nutrition e.g.nutrition to support athletic development, growth and maturation, recovery, hydration, supplementation, injury recovery etc.
  • Work alongside the First Team Lead Performance Nutritionist to align programmes and deliver performance nutrition strategies to players in the Academy.
  • Measuring, monitoring and interpreting body composition data.
  • Support academy match day and training sessions with nutritional input for matches as required.
  • Liaise with chefs around food service provision for Academy training days as well as home and away matches.
  • Travel preparation including menu planning, hotel briefing, match day fuelling and recovery strategies., Develop and deliver an evidence-based nutrition education syllabus including regular education classes and resources to enhance nutrition knowledge, habits and behaviours with U8-U18 players and parents/guardians.
  • Communication
  • Develop strong relationships with all personnel listed in 'Key Stakeholders' to maximise the effectiveness of players' training programmes through appropriate nutrition strategies.
  • Attend medical and MDT meetings to collaborate and provide nutritional updates as necessary.
  • Provide regular communication and updates to the lead performance nutritionist and academy director regarding all aspects of nutrition service development.
  • Documentation and Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Maintain records of all player consultations, nutrition interventions and track measurable outcomes.
  • Engage in CPD relevant to sports nutrition and be willing to participate in research if the opportunity arises

    To be successful in this role,you will have an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in nutrition or dietetics with a recognised post-graduate qualification (or equivalent) in a sport and exercise related subject e.g.sports nutrition, exercise physiology, sports science OR an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in a sport and exercise related subject with a recognised post-graduate qualification (or equivalent) in nutrition or sports nutrition.You will hold an ISAK Level 1 (or above) accreditation and graduate or practitioner registration with the UK Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENR).
  • You will have a proven track record in the provision of nutritional support to athletes including young athletes in a sporting environment. You will have a detailed understanding and experience in all areas of planning, implementation and monitoring of nutrition and performance strategies relevant to high performance sport in conjunction with athletic development and medical staff to support high performance. You will be experienced in measuring and interpreting body composition data with athletes. You will have a good understanding of paediatric nutrition and how growth and maturation status affects nutritional requirements and recommendations together with an understanding of the pressure and commitments required for young players involved in higher level youth football You will have a good understanding of rehabilitation and recovery practices as well as how nutrition can support the sports science and sports medicine disciplines. You will have an up-to-date knowledge on supplement use and Anti-Doping regulations.With your understanding the education needs of young athletes, using a food-focused approach to optimise health and performance, you can deliver interactive education workshops with young athletes. Having excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, you are an effective and confident presenter to a range of target audiences including young athletes as well as a team player. With your understanding of the adolescent mind, you can engage and inspire young players. You will have excellent attention to detail with strong organisational and record-keeping skills and the ability to prioritise and plan workloads according to scheduling demands. You will have a good level of IT literacy including dietary analysis. Due to the nature of this role, you can work flexibly to meet the needs of the club including working irregular and unsocial hours involving working outside of normal office hours, at weekends, evenings and bank holidays.

    This is a full-time permanent role working across the week. Your main base will be our Academy based in Kirkby Liverpool.
