Full Job Description

The Lead Accounting Officer role combines technical accounting, payroll, financial, and operational activity.

This role is responsible for providing financial support to Genomics England (GEL) staff and being the point of contact for queries concerning core financial operations, e.g. accounts payable, accounts receivable and our shared payroll service.

The Accounting Officer will ensure that delegated finance tasks are appropriately completed and monitored in line with policies and procedures and that any issues are investigated, resolved or reported.

Everyday responsibilities include:

  • In line with the month-end timetable, drive certain activities to process prompt period end close with responsibility for ensuring that a range of processes is in place to maintain balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Preparation and posting of related General Ledger (GL) journals.

  • Following the monthly payroll schedule, ensure a smooth payroll process with the people's team collaboration.

  • Ensure scrutiny of the data and documentation and provide payroll query resolution through consultation with the people's team.

  • Providing an accurate and efficient service ensuring all finance queries and tasks are dealt with promptly whilst adhering to Genomics England's financial calendar, including a month-end and regulatory reporting timetable.

  • Responsible for supporting the efficient running, reporting and management of Finance Operational KPI targets and actioning reported variances.

  • Ensure that financial procedures are fully documented and up to date, reviewed as necessary and at least once a year.

  • Investigating and resolving queries received from internal and external stakeholders promptly regarding all payments, purchases, data analysis and general accounting/finance issues.

  • Translating answers to financial queries for efficient stakeholder management.

  • Improve and manage all banking functions and user management in banking applications and Government Banking.

  • Support and ensure sufficient Bank and BACS systems, including accurate administration and best practices.

  • Ownership for the efficient management of the account payable and receivable finance function by ensuring timely and accurate transactional data processing within agreed timelines.

  • To promote robust and efficient financial administration across Genomics England, including oversight of the pay will ensure that delegated finance tasks are appropriately completed and monitored in line with policies and procedures and that any issues are investigated, resolved or reported.

    Salary from £40,500
